Initial Teacher Education
The University College of Teacher Education Styria offers educators for Initial Teacher Education courses in language and cultural education in the areas of German as a second language, mother tongue teaching, language-sensitive teaching and plurilingual didactics.

Bachelor Degree
Compulsory for all students (7 EC):
- German as a Second Language I (1 EC): 2nd semester of programmes
- German as a Second Language II (1 EC), 3rd semester of programmes
- Language-sensitive Teaching of Mathematics (5 EC), 8th semester of programmes
Choice for all students (30 - 60 EC):
- Consolidation of primary focus or extension study “Linguistic education and diversity” (60 EC): 3rd–8th semester of studies; open as extension study, compulsory semester abroad
- Consolidation of primary focus or extension study “German as a second language” (30 EC): 5th–8th semester of studies
Master Degree
- Choice: Subject specific and subject didactical specialisation “German as a second language” Start 2020/21

Compulsory for all students (4 EC):
- Course “Diversity and inclusion” (Basics of Educational Sciences/2 EC, Subject-specific didactics/1EC, Applied Pedagogical Studies/1EC): 5th semester of programmes
Modules in individual subjects or specialisations (8 EC):
- German: Module “Plurilingualism and German as a second language” (8 EC): 5th–7th semester
- Inclusive education: Module “Diversity and intersectionality”
- Deepening catholic religious education: 3 core themes, one of which is “Diversity, heterogeneity and multireligiosity in the school context”
Master Degree
Compulsory for all students (6 EC):
- Course “Language education in the context of plurilingualism” (6 EC)
